Alternative Infertility Treaments

If you are struggling to become pregnant, you are not alone.  Nearly a third of all women have difficulty conceiving. Some women will seek out standard infertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), but others may want to try using alternative infertility treatments instead. Many alternative infertility treatments have a very high success rate either when used alone or combined with other alternative or standard fertility treatments. Here are some of the most popular and well known alternative infertility treatments:

  1. Acupuncture. Acupuncture is one of the alternative infertility treatments with the most scientific backing. In 2002, there was a major German research study that showed that women receiving acupuncture while also receiving IVF treatment were more than twice as likely to get pregnant than those who did not receive acupuncture. The results have been replicated numerous times since, most recently in a study involving over 1000 women in 2008 which also showed that women receiving acupuncture had a much lower miscarriage rate as well. One of the ways in which acupuncture is thought to work is by reducing stress hormones which are known to interfere with conception.

  2. Massage. Fertility massage appears to work in a similar way to acupuncture to improve fertility (by reducing stress hormones), and it also may help clear up blockages in the reproductive system. There are several different types of fertility massage techniques, and you should check with your local fertility and massage centers to see if they offer the practice. If not, you can also learn self-fertility massage, or have your partner learn the techniques.

  3. Herbs. Probably the most ancient alternative infertility treatment, there are many different fertility herbs that different medical traditions use to treat fertility, including many Chinese herbs for fertility.

  4. Cleanses. Fertility cleanses are a fairly new approach to treating infertility. Many of these cleanses are centered on removing toxins from the body that result from modern-day industrial society.  They are believed to help create a better bodily environment in which for conception to take place and the fetus can grow. Cleanses should only be done prior to becoming pregnant.

  5. Dietary Changes. Being overweight can interfere with fertility, so if you are overweight you should consider losing weight to improve your fertility. But even if you are not overweight, there are some dietary recommendations made by doctors and alternative medical practitioners to help improve your chances of conceiving. These include eliminating substances such as transfat from your diet, and eating a diet rich in whole grains and whole fat dairy products.

It is likely that you will have the most success by pursuing a combination alternative therapy that integrates many alternative infertility treatments in a way that is proven to be successful.
